The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended four individuals suspected of armed robbery and secret cult membership. DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the Police Public Relations Officer for Oyo State, announced this on Friday in a statement distributed to journalists in Ibadan.
Arrest Based on Credible Intelligence
According to the statement, operatives acted on credible intelligence after receiving information that members of a notorious criminal syndicate, known for terrorizing residents across Ibadan metropolis, had gathered at their hideout in the Soka area of Ibadan.
“The Oyo State Police Command, in its sustained commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the State, has recorded another significant operational breakthrough with the arrest of four suspected armed robbers and members of a secret cult group,” the statement read.
Details of the Operation
On Friday, 10th June 2026, at approximately 6:00 a.m., operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit mobilized to the location based on actionable intelligence. The intelligence indicated that the suspects were planning another criminal operation within the community. The operation led to the successful apprehension of four suspected gang members: Salawu Sarafa (alias Folori), Yusuf Tajudeen (alias Blacky), Farouq Ariyo, and Adebayo Awosemo (alias Naira).
Recovery of Weapon and Confessions
A thorough search conducted during the operation resulted in the recovery of one locally made pistol from the suspects. During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the Eiye Supremo Confraternity and admitted their involvement in a series of violent criminal activities within Ibadan metropolis and its environs.
The Police Command has commenced discreet and intensive efforts aimed at apprehending fleeing suspects and dismantling the criminal network. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the gang’s activities and identify other accomplices.
