Oyo Teachers Begin Indefinite Strike Over Abducted Colleagues and Pupils
Oyo Teachers Go on Indefinite Strike Over Abductions

The Oyo State Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, has commenced an indefinite strike effective Monday, June 1, 2026, until further notice. The directive was issued by the State NUT Chairman, Comrade Hassan Fatai, in a statement released on Monday, June 1.

Reasons for the Industrial Action

Comrade Fatai explained that the industrial action is a protest against the prolonged captivity of abducted teachers and pupils in the state. The union aims to draw the government's attention to the urgent need for intensified efforts to secure the safe release of the abductees without any further delay.

Call for Compliance

The union has called on all teachers to fully comply with the strike directive, remain law-abiding, and stay safe in their respective homes throughout the duration of the strike. The statement emphasized: “The action is intended to draw the attention of government and security agencies to the urgent need to intensify efforts towards the safe rescue of our colleagues and the pupils still in captivity.”
