The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a fourth suspect in the gruesome killing of 25-year-old model Ibrahim Mbaya, as authorities intensify efforts to capture two other fugitives still on the run.
The suspect, identified as Tisloh Joshua, was paraded on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, alongside three individuals previously arrested in connection with the incident. The victim, a University of Jos graduate popularly known as Ibee, died on Sunday, July 26, 2026, after being brutally assaulted by a mob—including friends—over allegations of phone theft.
Latest Arrest and Investigation
Speaking during the parade in Jos, the command’s spokesperson, SP Alfred Alabo, confirmed that Joshua’s arrest followed intelligence from a Good Samaritan who alerted police that a young man had been rushed to a hospital in critical condition after a severe beating. The victim later succumbed to his injuries.
Alabo stated that operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) made the breakthrough after sustained intelligence gathering and discreet investigation. “The Plateau State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that, sequel to our earlier press release on the arrest of three suspects in connection with the alleged killing of one Ibrahim Mbaya, a breakthrough has been recorded with the arrest of an additional suspect linked to the incident,” he said.
Details of the Attack
The 25-year-old model, known for his presence on social media, was attacked by a mob that included people he considered friends. The assault stemmed from accusations that he stole a phone. The violence escalated rapidly, leaving Mbaya with critical injuries that proved fatal. He was rushed to a medical facility but could not be saved.
Police have condemned the act of jungle justice and reiterated their commitment to ensuring all perpetrators face the law. “The suspect is currently in police custody while investigation is ongoing. Efforts have also been intensified to apprehend other suspects who are currently at large,” Alabo added.
Police Appeal to the Public
The Plateau State Police Command has urged citizens to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. “The command once again condemns all forms of jungle justice and urges members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands,” the statement read. “Citizens are encouraged to promptly report suspected criminal activities to the police or other relevant security agencies to enable lawful investigation and prosecution.”
Alabo assured the family of the deceased and the people of Plateau State that justice would be diligently pursued. “The Plateau State Police Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to ensuring that every individual connected with this unfortunate incident is identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he said.
