Ogun Police Arrest Man with Exhumed Human Parts, Foil Car Theft Operation

Police in Ogun State have made significant arrests in two separate criminal cases, involving alleged ritual activities and vehicle theft, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining law and order.

Arrest for Possession of Human Parts

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man, Idowu Ashafa, for unlawful possession of human parts exhumed from a grave, suspected to be intended for ritual purposes. The arrest occurred on April 17, 2026, during a routine patrol led by the Divisional Police Officer of Igbesa Division, CSP Solotan Owolabi.

Ashafa was intercepted at Ido Itekun Village in Igbesa, where he was found carrying a nylon bag containing a fresh human head, two human palms, and other human remains. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued from Abeokuta, noting that the operation was conducted under the supervision of the Area Commander, ACP Folashade Tanaruno.

Babaseyi stated, "Operatives recovered the tools allegedly used in committing the act, and the scene has been thoroughly documented for further investigation." The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for detailed inquiry and potential prosecution. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.

Related Car Theft Incident

In a related development, police have arrested three suspects for the alleged theft of a Lexus RX 300 SUV from Lagos. The suspects, identified as Obada Ezekiel (27), Emmanuel Timothy (25), and Yaya Yakubu (27), were apprehended on April 18, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m.

The arrest followed a distress call received by operatives of the Ibafo Division, who acted on credible intelligence to track the suspects to a hideout in the Ibafo area. There, the stolen ash-coloured Lexus SUV was recovered. Preliminary investigations suggest that a security guard conspired with the two other suspects to steal the vehicle from Lagos and move it to Ibafo for disposal.

Babaseyi added, "The swift response and effective use of intelligence led to the recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of the perpetrators." These suspects will also be transferred to the SCID in Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution.

Police Commendation and Public Appeal

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their prompt action and efficient use of intelligence in both cases. He acknowledged the crucial role played by members of the public in providing timely information, which aided the arrests.

Ojajuni reiterated the command's unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across Ogun State, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in combating crime. These incidents highlight ongoing efforts by the police to address serious offenses and ensure public safety through proactive measures and collaborative efforts with residents.
