Zamfara Police Arrest Suspect with 800 Rounds of AK-47 Ammunition
The Zamfara State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities within the state. In a recent operation, law enforcement officers arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Mannir Adam, who was allegedly transporting a substantial cache of ammunition.
Details of the Arrest
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, the arrest took place on Tuesday evening. The suspect was intercepted at approximately 7:50 p.m. along the Gusau–Funtua federal highway. This operation was part of the command's routine patrol activities aimed at restoring normalcy across Zamfara State.
The suspect, a resident of Yankuzo village in Tsafe Local Government Area, was riding a red Boxer motorcycle at the time of his arrest. Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives stationed at the Yankara checkpoint conducted a thorough search of the vehicle.
Recovery of Ammunition
During the search, officers discovered eight hundred rounds of AK-47 7.62mm live ammunition. The ammunition was carefully concealed inside the motorcycle's fuel tank, indicating a deliberate attempt to evade detection. This large quantity of ammunition raises serious concerns about potential criminal activities in the region.
Investigation and Suspect's Journey
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Mannir Adam was traveling from Unguwar Bawa in the Saminaka Local Government Area of Kaduna State. His intended destination was Kucheri Village in Tsafe LGA, Zamfara State. The police have taken the suspect and the recovered exhibits into custody.
The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further discreet investigation. The goal is to apprehend other members of the criminal network and bring them to justice, highlighting the police's commitment to dismantling organized crime.
