Taraba Police Command Arrests Suspects in Fatal Ambush of Officers

The Taraba State Police Command has successfully tracked and apprehended suspects believed to be responsible for the tragic killing of three police officers in the Tse Kwe, Tor Damisa area of Donga Local Government Area. According to a statement released by the acting Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Mshelizah, the arrests mark a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the ambush that occurred last month.

Details of the Attack and Arrests

In the incident, a team of police officers was ambushed by militias, resulting in the deaths of Corporal Raphael Danjuma, Police Constable Ebenezer Daniel, and Police Constable Samuel Bawa. The suspects, identified as Suleman Abdullahi, aged 30, and Idris Kauri, aged 33, both from Akente Village in Donga LGA, have been taken into custody. All three service firearms stolen from the deceased officers have been recovered from the suspects.

The police have confirmed that the suspects will be charged to court, while efforts continue to apprehend other accomplices who remain at large. This development follows intensified security operations under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP Morkwap S. Dongshal, who has been conducting on-the-spot assessments in volatile areas like Takum and Donga LGAs to address security challenges.

Enhanced Security Measures and Community Engagement

Upon assuming duty, CP Dongshal immediately intensified visibility policing across major towns and highways in Taraba State, aiming to deter criminal activities and ensure public safety. As part of these efforts, he visited Takum LGA, engaging with traditional rulers, community elders, youth leaders, and other stakeholders to gather firsthand information and strengthen partnerships for lasting peace.

During his assessment in Donga LGA, the Commissioner visited the exact location of the ambush, underscoring the Command's commitment to addressing security threats. The police have also reported another incident where officers from the Zing Divisional Police Headquarters intercepted two suspects, Torme Terzugwe and Job David, in Yonko, recovering 304 rounds of live cartridges during a stop-and-search operation.
