Oyo Police Command Apprehends Three Suspected Armed Robbers in Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has announced a significant operational breakthrough with the arrest of three suspected armed robbers and the recovery of numerous stolen items in Ibadan. According to a statement released on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the suspects were involved in multiple criminal activities across the state.

Intelligence-Led Operation Leads to Arrests

As part of proactive policing strategies and intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations, police operatives on patrol in the General Gas Area of Akobo, Ibadan, intercepted a suspect riding a motorcycle. The individual, later identified as Abiodun Adeyemi Michael, attempted to flee upon sighting the officers but was swiftly pursued and apprehended.

Investigations revealed that Michael had been on the police radar for some time and was known to operate along the borders of Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states, engaging in armed robbery activities. A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a substantial cache of stolen items.

Recovered Items Include High-Value Electronics and Cash

The recovered items from the suspect include:

  • One Magnum Pump Action gun with six live cartridges
  • Multiple mobile phones: iPhone 17, iPhone 15, iPhone 13, iPhone 8, iPhone XR, iPhone 16 Blue, iPhone 14 Pro Max, Tecno Camon, Tecno CKG, Tecno Spark 20, Tecno CM6, and five units of Redmi phones (black)
  • One Samsung Galaxy S10
  • One Wi-Fi device
  • One power bank
  • One Oraimo radio
  • Four wristwatches
  • Cash sum of N130,000

Confessions and Further Arrests

During interrogation, Michael confessed to participating in a robbery operation alongside three accomplices: Olaoluwa Pamole, Ahmed Ismail, and Lamidi. The group allegedly robbed unsuspecting members of the public at gunpoint around the Toll Gate and Egbeda areas of Ibadan.

Acting on this information, a team of police operatives, in collaboration with the Command Monitoring Unit and led by the Divisional Police Officer of Akobo Division, proceeded to the suspects' meeting point at Access Hotel in the Sawmill, Onipepeye Area of Iwo Road, Ibadan. At the scene, Olaoluwa Pamole and Ahmed Ismail were arrested, while the third suspect, Lamidi, remains at large.

The arrested suspects further confessed to being involved in the snatching of an ash-colored Honda car in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Police Leadership Commends Operatives

The Commissioner of Police for Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, has directed that the case be transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for discreet investigation and prosecution. He has also ordered the apprehension and prosecution of the fleeing suspect to face the full weight of the law.

The Oyo State Police Command commended the swift response, diligence, and professionalism of the operatives whose timely actions led to the arrests and recovery of stolen items. The Command also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his outstanding leadership and guidance, which continues to strengthen proactive policing across the nation.

Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station. Additionally, any individuals who have recently lost valuables to robbery in the Egbeda and Toll Gate areas are encouraged to come forward to the Command Monitoring Unit to claim recovered items, subject to verification of ownership.
