Police Rescue Nine Foreign Nationals from Travel Scam Syndicate in Ogun
The Ogun State Police Command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit has successfully rescued nine foreign nationals and apprehended two suspects connected to a transnational fraud syndicate operating in the state. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat organized crime targeting vulnerable individuals seeking international opportunities.
Arrest and Rescue Operation Details
Suspects Stephen Kwame and Abubakar Sulaimon were arrested at their hideout in Owode Egba, where they were holding the victims captive. According to the state police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victims, including a Ghanaian national, were lured to Nigeria under false promises of travel to Europe. Once in captivity, they were coerced into paying ransoms, with one victim reportedly paying ₵31,000 before being rescued.

Commissioner of Police CP Bode Ojajuni commended the professionalism of the operatives involved in the rescue mission. He urged the public to exercise extreme caution when engaging with international travel agents, emphasizing the need for thorough verification to avoid falling victim to similar scams.
The Command has provided emergency contact numbers for reporting suspicious activities, encouraging citizens to come forward with any information that could aid in preventing such crimes. This proactive approach aims to enhance community safety and deter future fraudulent operations.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by transnational criminal networks and the critical role of law enforcement in protecting citizens and foreign nationals alike.
