The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the death of a National Youth Service Corps member, Stanley Okebaram Chimaroke, in Nembe Local Government Area. The 27-year-old civil engineering graduate and former president of the Students’ Union Government at Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, was found dead days after he was reported missing in the riverine community where he was serving.
Police Launch Investigation
Police spokesman Musa Mohammed confirmed the development on Tuesday, July 28, stating that detectives have launched a discreet investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the corps member’s death. “The police have launched a discreet investigation into the incident. The body has been deposited in the morgue pending the conclusion of the probe,” Mohammed said.
Body Recovered from Water
According to information circulating among colleagues and associates, Okebaram’s lifeless body was allegedly recovered from a body of water in Nembe after he was reportedly attacked by yet-to-be-identified assailants. The Bayelsa Police Command had earlier commenced a search operation following his disappearance in Nembe.
Missing Person Report
Police sources told security analyst Zagazola Makama that the missing case was reported at about 8:40 p.m. on July 25, 2026, by Aribisola Bisi Isaac, a corps member serving in Nembe, accompanied by Adeola Marvelous. According to the report, the Local Government Inspector informed them that the missing corps member, who was posted to serve in Nembe Creek, was last seen at about 8:00 p.m. on July 24.
Search Efforts
The sources said repeated attempts to reach Okebaram through his mobile phone numbers were unsuccessful, prompting concerns over his whereabouts. Following the report, police operatives were mobilized to the creek community, located about 45 minutes by boat from the Nembe Divisional Headquarters, to commence search and investigation.
The police have urged anyone with information to come forward as they continue their probe into the incident.
