International Manhunt Ends as Fugitive Returned to Nigeria
The Nigeria Police Force has successfully taken custody of a fugitive suspect who fled to Ghana after allegedly being involved in the kidnapping and murder of a Federal Road Safety Corps officer and his daughter. The suspect, identified as Victor Benjamin Fejemirokun, was handed over by the Ghana Police Service in a coordinated operation in Accra.
This significant development occurred on November 24, 2025, marking the culmination of an international manhunt that crossed borders. The arrest and subsequent handover demonstrate strengthened cooperation between West African law enforcement agencies in combating transnational crimes.
Multi-Agency Cooperation Leads to Arrest
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the breakthrough was achieved through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Abuja. The Ghana Police Service acted on credible intelligence indicating that the suspect was hiding within their jurisdiction before effecting his arrest.
"The Ghana Police Service, acting on credible intelligence that the suspect was hiding within their jurisdiction, effected his arrest and immediately notified the Nigeria Police Force," Hundeyin stated. He further explained that "Interpol NCB Abuja swiftly proceeded to Accra, where the handover was finalised."
The seamless coordination between the two countries' police forces highlights the effectiveness of international partnerships in addressing cross-border criminal activities. The suspect's flight to Ghana following the alleged commission of the crime demonstrates the increasing mobility of criminals across West African borders.
Police Leadership Commends International Cooperation
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD., NPM, has promised that the suspect will face arraignment following thorough investigation. The police chief emphasized the commitment to ensuring that the case is brought to a logical conclusion, providing justice for the victims and their families.
IGP Egbetokun specifically commended the Ghana Police Service for their professionalism and cooperation in the successful operation. This gesture acknowledges the crucial role played by international law enforcement partners in apprehending fugitives who attempt to evade justice by crossing borders.
The Nigeria Police Force, in an official statement, reassured the public of its "commitment to protecting the lives of all Nigerians and apprehending offenders regardless of distance or borders while strengthening international partnerships against transnational crimes."
This case represents another milestone in the ongoing efforts by Nigerian law enforcement agencies to track down and prosecute individuals involved in serious crimes, regardless of their attempts to escape justice by fleeing to neighboring countries.
