Police Invite VeryDarkMan to Abuja Over AIG Jimoh Claims

The Nigeria Police Force has formally invited social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), to appear before the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Abuja to provide evidence for his public allegations against a senior police officer.

The invitation letter, dated July 30, 2026, requires Otse to report to the Force CID headquarters to substantiate claims he has been making on social media about the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Lagos, AIG Moshood Jimoh.

Police Confirm Invitation and AIG Jimoh's Summons

In a statement released on August 4, 2026, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, confirmed that AIG Jimoh has also been invited for questioning by the Force CID in connection with the same allegations. The statement emphasizes that the Force is committed to due process and will not allow media campaigns to influence the handling of the case.

The police noted that the underlying criminal case referenced in public commentary has been fully investigated and filed before a court of competent jurisdiction, following advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

Police Warn Against Defamation

While acknowledging the constitutional right to free expression, the police drew a line between constructive criticism and unsubstantiated allegations. They warned that if claims are found false and intended to damage an officer's reputation, legal remedies may be pursued.

The Force urged Otse to honor the invitation and engage with the administrative review in good faith, allowing the court process to proceed without interference. The statement reiterated that discipline within the Force is governed by the Constitution, the Police Act 2020, Police Regulations, and Force Orders, which apply to every officer regardless of rank.

This development follows a series of public claims by VeryDarkMan, which have sparked widespread discussion on social media. The outcome of the CID investigation and the court proceedings will be closely watched.
