Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have eliminated a suspected armed robber who was disguised in military uniform during a violent confrontation along a major highway in the state.
Police Confrontation with Robbery Gang
The incident occurred on the evening of November 20, 2025, when police received critical information about criminal activities along the Lambata-Maje-Suleja road. According to the police statement released by spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun on Thursday, November 27, the situation required immediate intervention.
At approximately 11:45 PM, authorities were alerted that suspected armed robbers had been spotted operating along the highway, where they were systematically robbing motorists. The criminal activity posed significant danger to travelers using this important transportation route.
Intense Shootout and Outcome
Police patrol teams attached to Maje Division quickly mobilized and rushed to the scene. As officers approached the Numbawa/Malam-karo point along the road, they encountered the robbery gang, leading to an immediate exchange of gunfire.
During the intense shootout, one of the suspects dressed in military camouflage was neutralized by police fire. The remaining members of the criminal gang managed to escape from the scene, but authorities confirmed they fled with visible gunshot injuries.
Recovered Evidence and Aftermath
Following the confrontation, police conducted a thorough search of the area and recovered several items from the scene. The evidence collected included:
- One improvised wooden gun wrapped with black celotape
- A mobile phone
- A torch light
The body of the deceased suspect was transported to Suleja Hospital morgue for proper documentation and identification. Police teams promptly cleared the road to restore normal traffic flow, while maintaining continuous monitoring of the area to prevent further criminal activities.
