Police Launch Investigation into Death of Ogun NYSC Member
Police authorities in Ogun State have initiated a formal investigation into the tragic death of Victoria Ariyo, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The incident has sparked significant concern and scrutiny within the community and among officials.
Details of the Tragic Incident
Ariyo, who was serving in the Abeokuta South Local Government Area, passed away last Tuesday due to severe pregnancy-related complications. According to reports, the deceased underwent a pregnancy termination procedure, after which she developed critical health issues that ultimately led to her demise.
She has since been laid to rest at the Kobape Cemetery, located along the Kobape-Sagamu Road in Abeokuta. The burial was a somber event attended by family, friends, and fellow corps members.
Allegations and Arrests
Sources within the NYSC have alleged that the Local Government Inspector (LGI), identified as Abass Olalekan, was responsible for the pregnancy. In response to these serious allegations, Olalekan was reportedly arrested and taken into police custody at the Eleweran station in Abeokuta for further questioning and investigation.
The police are treating this case with high priority, given the sensitive nature of the allegations and the tragic outcome.
Official Police Statement
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that an investigation has been launched to unravel the exact circumstances surrounding Ariyo's death. He emphasized the commitment of the police to ensure a thorough and transparent inquiry.
"I can confirm that the case of the demise of Victoria Ariyo is under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID)," Babaseyi stated. He assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to determine the cause of death and hold any responsible parties accountable.
