The Kano State Police Command has successfully rescued a two-year-old boy who was kidnapped from his home, arrested three suspects, and recovered a significant portion of the ransom paid by the victim's family.
Incident Details
According to the command's spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident occurred on April 19, 2026, when a resident of Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area reported that his son, Aliyu Muhammad, had been abducted in front of their residence. The abductors later contacted the family and demanded a ransom of one million naira, which was paid. However, the suspects failed to release the child after receiving the money.
Police Response
Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed the Anti-Kidnapping Squad to initiate an immediate response. Through sustained intelligence gathering and technical operations, the police identified the suspects' hideout and arrested them.
Suspects and Rescue
The arrested suspects are Hassan Umar, aged 26; Abdullahi Hamisu, aged 19; and Hussaini Saminu, aged 24, all residents of Gwammaja Quarters. The victim was held captive at the residence of Hussaini Saminu, where he was rescued unhurt and later reunited with his family.
Recovery of Ransom
Police operatives recovered nine hundred and thirty thousand naira out of the one million naira ransom paid. The remaining amount is still under investigation.
Commendation and Warning
CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for their professionalism and tactical precision. He also appreciated the technical guidance from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police. The CP reiterated that the command will remain relentless in fighting kidnapping and other violent crimes, warning criminal elements that Kano State will be unsafe for them.
