Police Recover Stolen Infant in Zamfara
The Zamfara State Police Command has successfully recovered a ten-day-old baby who was stolen from General Hospital, Kaura-Namoda, in the Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area. The operation also led to the arrest of a suspect believed to be involved in the crime.
DSP Yazid Abubakar, the command's spokesperson, confirmed the development in a statement released on Saturday, May 16, 2026. He identified the suspect as Asmau Nasiru, a 27-year-old female, who is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation.
According to Abubakar, the infant was recovered after a complaint was filed at the Kaura-Namoda Divisional Police Station three days prior, reporting the theft. The police immediately launched an intensive investigation, which included summoning and questioning hospital staff who were on duty at the time of the incident.
“The Zamfara State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in a case involving alleged human trafficking, baby factory activities, and the theft of a ten-day-old infant from General Hospital Kaura Namoda,” the statement read.
The statement further explained that on May 15, 2026, at approximately 8:35 a.m., the stolen baby was recovered unharmed at a nearby hamlet called Kogin Audu, via Kaura Namoda. The recovery and arrest were made possible through credible information provided by public-spirited individuals, as part of sustained community engagement and intelligence sharing.
The baby has since been reunited with the biological parents. The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, praised the public for their support and timely information, which greatly aided the successful outcome. He also reassured residents of the command's commitment to combating all forms of criminality across the state.
