Pregnant Woman Gets Life for Killing Rival Pregnant Mother of 5 in Alabama
Pregnant Woman Life Sentence for Killing Rival Pregnant Mother

Aaniyah Nowden, a pregnant woman, has been sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for the murder of Justina Wallace, a 36-year-old mother of five who was also pregnant with the same man's child. The incident occurred on July 7, 2023, in Birmingham, Alabama, according to the Birmingham Police Department.

Details of the Crime

On the day of the killing, Wallace went to Nowden's home, where an argument ensued involving Nowden, Wallace, and the father of both unborn children. The jury heard that Wallace was holding her toddler when she was shot. Two of Wallace's other children were also in the vicinity at the time of the shooting.

Nowden claimed she acted in self-defense, but prosecutors argued otherwise. Deputy District Attorney Jason Wilson stated, "This defendant shot and killed a pregnant woman who was carrying nothing but her baby... in her arms. Justina had no weapon, no gun, she wasn't attacking anybody." The shooting was reportedly captured on cell phone video.

Legal Proceedings

Nowden was initially charged with three counts of capital murder, but the jury dismissed two of those charges. She was convicted of capital murder and sentenced in Jefferson County, Alabama, last week. The unborn child of Wallace did not survive the attack.

Nowden's sentence of life in prison without parole was handed down by the court. The case has drawn attention due to the tragic circumstances involving multiple children and the loss of two lives.
