Protesters in Abuja staged a demonstration over the abduction of schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, demanding urgent action from security agencies to secure their release. The protest highlighted growing concerns about insecurity in the region and the need for immediate government intervention.
During the protest, participants carried placards with inscriptions such as “Release our children and allow Tinubu to work,” combining a call for the safe return of the kidnapped children with support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The protesters also displayed other signs urging authorities to prioritize the rescue operation.
The protesters urged authorities to intensify rescue operations and ensure the immediate and safe recovery of the victims, stressing that insecurity affecting schoolchildren should be treated as a national emergency. They called on the federal and state governments to collaborate closely to address the situation.
They also appealed for improved coordination between security agencies in responding to kidnapping incidents, insisting that political distractions should not slow down efforts to address the situation. The protesters emphasized that the lives of innocent children must be protected at all costs.
At the time of the protest, there was no official public response from the affected state government regarding the specific allegations or claims raised by the group. Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has not yet issued a statement addressing the demands of the protesters.
Security agencies are expected to continue investigations and efforts aimed at locating and rescuing the abducted children. The protesters vowed to continue their demonstrations until the children are safely returned.
