A 30-year-old suspected armed robber has died after reportedly jumping from the rear of a moving police vehicle while attempting to escape custody in the Savannah Region of Ghana. The deceased, identified as Mumin Kresi, was arrested on March 23, 2026, in Daboya through an intelligence-led operation after being lured from his hideout.

Interrogation and Confession Details

During interrogation, Kresi admitted to his involvement in robbery activities and disclosed critical information about weapons and stolen items. He revealed that one pistol used in the operation was hidden at his residence in Yerezori, while a second weapon, along with stolen money and mobile phones, was in the possession of an accomplice known only as Berra.

Incident During Police Escort

On the same date, at approximately 3:40 a.m., police officers were escorting Kresi to his residence in Yerezori to retrieve the hidden weapon. According to a police source on Sunday, March 29, while being transported in the rear of the service vehicle with two officers, the suspect suddenly jumped from the moving vehicle, fell to the ground, and became unconscious.

Medical Response and Aftermath

Kresi was immediately rushed to St. Ann’s Hospital in Damongo, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue, pending preservation and an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigation and Missing Items

Following the incident, a team from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (RPID) attempted to retrieve the weapon from Kresi’s residence but was unsuccessful. Police were informed by the deceased’s wife, Ajarah Kadija, that Berra, believed to be an accomplice, visited the home the previous night and removed an unknown item.

Authorities are continuing their investigations into the robbery and the missing items, including the second weapon. The case highlights the risks involved in police operations and the ongoing efforts to combat armed robbery in the region.
