SA Mother Accused of Poisoning Her Two Children

A 27-year-old South African woman has been charged with the murder of her two young children after allegedly poisoning them at the family home. Ntanganedzeni Siphugu made a brief appearance at the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, facing two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of her children, aged six and nine.

According to Mashudu Malabi, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the alleged incident occurred on June 1, 2026, at Madabani Village in Limpopo. Prosecutors claim that Siphugu administered a poisonous substance to the children, causing them to become critically ill.

Malabi stated that the children fell ill the day after the alleged poisoning. One child was rushed to a nearby clinic for medical treatment but was declared dead upon arrival. When family members returned home from the clinic, they discovered that the second child had also died.

The deaths prompted a police investigation, leading to Siphugu's arrest. She was subsequently charged with two counts of murder. The case was brought before the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate's Court, where proceedings were postponed to June 12, 2026, to allow for a formal bail application. Meanwhile, Siphugu remains in custody pending the outcome of those proceedings.
