Jigawa Police Arrest Son for Allegedly Setting 60-Year-Old Father Ablaze
The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 27-year-old man, Kabiru Nuhu, who is accused of setting his 60-year-old father ablaze in a shocking domestic incident in Kazaure Local Government Area. The victim, identified as Nuhu Bakanike, tragically succumbed to his injuries after the horrific attack.
Details of the Tragic Incident
According to the police spokesperson, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, the incident occurred on April 1, 2026, at approximately 6:00 AM in Magama Quarters, Kazaure town. Preliminary investigations reveal that Kabiru Nuhu allegedly poured a substantial quantity of a flammable substance, believed to be petrol, onto his father's body before igniting it.
The police received a report at about 6:30 AM from Lokon Malamai via Magama Quarters, indicating that a 60-year-old man had been engulfed by fire under suspicious circumstances. Officers responded promptly, rushing the victim to the nearest hospital for emergency treatment.
Investigation and Arrest
Through intensive surveillance and investigation, police identified and arrested Kabiru Nuhu, who resides at the same address as the victim and is confirmed to be his biological son. During the arrest, authorities noted that the suspect had several fresh fire burns and wounds on his forehead, arms, and toes.
The victim was later referred to a higher medical center for more intensive care but unfortunately died from the severe injuries sustained during the attack. The police have emphasized that the suspect is currently in custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for thorough investigation and prosecution.
