Adamawa Police Arrest Son for Kidnapping Father to Fund Second Marriage

In a shocking case of familial betrayal, the Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended three suspects involved in the abduction of an elderly man from Fufore Local Government Area, with one of the detainees identified as the victim's own son. The arrest followed a coordinated joint security operation conducted in Jera village, located within the Malabu District, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and gender-based violence across the state.

Joint Security Raid Leads to Arrests

According to police spokesman SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the suspects were captured during a meticulously planned raid that involved police operatives working in collaboration with members of the Miyetti Allah group. This operation, part of broader initiatives to intensify actions against criminal elements in Adamawa, resulted in the detention of three individuals from Jera village.

The arrested suspects have been named as Lawali Haruna, aged 45, Yahaya Ibrahim, 25, and Da'u Alhaji Ahmadu, 28. All three are residents of Jera village, and their arrest underscores the critical role of community-police partnerships in addressing security challenges.

Son Confesses to Abduction for Personal Gain

In a startling confession, Da'u Alhaji Ahmadu admitted to orchestrating the kidnapping of his father, Alhaji Ahmadu, with the aim of extorting a N2 million ransom. He revealed that his motive was to raise funds to marry a second wife, stating, "I connived with my friends to kidnap my father Alhaji Ahmadu and demand for a ransom of 2 million naira because I want to add another wife to make them 2." Expressing remorse, Da'u appealed for forgiveness from his father and the wider community, acknowledging the gravity of his actions.

Yahaya Ibrahim, another suspect, disclosed that he became involved after being approached by Da'u, while Lawali Haruna admitted to contacting an individual who carried out the actual abduction. Despite their confessions, all three suspects claimed they no longer know the whereabouts of the victim, whose location remains unknown as of the latest reports.

Police Commend Cooperation and Urge Public Vigilance

The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police praised the effective cooperation between security agencies and local groups, emphasizing that such collaborations have significantly strengthened crime-fighting efforts in the region. He urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid in the ongoing search for the victim and to support broader security initiatives.

This incident, reported to have occurred on January 30, 2026, adds to a series of kidnapping cases in Nigeria, highlighting persistent security concerns. In a related development, bandits recently attacked communities in Niger State, resulting in multiple abductions and fatalities, further underscoring the need for robust security measures.

The arrest of these suspects serves as a stark reminder of the complex nature of crime in Nigeria, where familial ties can be exploited for personal gain, and the importance of community engagement in maintaining public safety.
