The Ogun State Police Command has made an arrest in a tragic case of fratricide linked to a financial dispute. A man identified as Lekan Lasisi is now in custody for the alleged shooting of his stepbrother, which resulted in the victim's death.

Dispute Over Debt Turns Deadly

The fatal incident occurred on December 19, 2025, in the Abule Tuntun area within the Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State. According to police reports and a subsequent interrogation video, the conflict stemmed from a recurring issue of debt owed by the deceased.

Lekan Lasisi explained that he was frequently approached by his stepbrother's creditors, who demanded he settle the debts. The specific argument that led to violence involved a sum of N4,000 owed to a market woman.

Suspect's Account of the Incident

In a video shared by a Facebook user, Makinde Fasunle, on Monday, December 29, 2025, Lasisi provided his version of events. He stated that on the day of the incident, he confronted his brother about the persistent debts and the embarrassment it caused the family.

"When he took a cutlass, I brought out my gun. I am a hunter," Lasisi said, describing the escalation. He claimed the deceased was the first to brandish a weapon. Lasisi insisted the shooting was not deliberate: "I brought out a gun, but it accidentally discharged and hit him. I do not intend to kill him."

Appeal for Mercy and Police Investigation

While admitting to firing the shot, Lasisi appealed to the government for leniency. He cited family circumstances, including an aged mother and a sick sibling who was supposed to be her caregiver. "My appeal to the government is that they should have mercy upon me," he pleaded.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Babseyi Oluseyi, confirmed the arrest and the details of the case. The PPRO stated that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran for a thorough investigation. "It happened on December 19, and it was transferred to SCID, Eleweran," the spokesperson said.
