Police Foil Cattle Rustling Operation and Arrest Four Suspects

In a separate but related development, the Oyo State Police Command has successfully foiled a cattle rustling operation and arrested four suspects. This action followed a coordinated response to a distress call from the Ado-Awaye axis of the state.

Recovery of Stolen Cattle and Vehicle

The Command reported that its operatives recovered rustled cattle and a vehicle used by the suspects during an operation carried out in the early hours of March 13. According to DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the incident occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. when a resident of the Igbojaye area, Muhammad Ibrahim, reported that armed hoodlums had invaded a cattle camp belonging to one Yahaya at Iserin area via Ado-Awaye and made off with several cows.

The Divisional Police Officer in Ado-Awaye immediately mobilized a joint patrol team comprising police operatives and local vigilantes to the scene. The team intercepted the suspects as they attempted to escape with the livestock. The suspects had already loaded two cows into a white Mazda bus with registration number KMA 178 ZY and were in the process of loading three additional cows when operatives closed in on them. Upon sighting the patrol team, the hoodlums abandoned the vehicle loaded with the cattle and fled into the bush.

Further investigation extended to Maya Town in the Lanlate area, where the principal suspect, Moshood Abdullahi, 38, was apprehended. Abdullahi was described as a notorious cattle rustler reportedly from Badagry. His arrest also resulted in the apprehension of another suspect, Macho Sindi, 29. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime.

The Command confirmed that the stolen cattle and the vehicle used in the operation were successfully recovered. He also expressed appreciation for the support and guidance of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in strengthening security and community policing efforts across the country.
