The Kwara State Police Command has made a significant arrest in a shocking homicide case, detaining a 15-year-old boy identified as Gobir Yusuf. He is accused of the brutal murder of his benefactor, Akanbi A, which occurred on January 7, 2026. According to the state Commissioner of Police, the case came to light on January 14, 2026, at approximately 8:30 PM, when authorities received a distress call. The call reported that the deceased was found in a pool of blood at her residence, prompting an immediate police response. Officers swiftly arrived at the scene and initiated a discreet and thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic death.
Suspect's Confession and Motive
During the investigation, findings revealed that the suspect, who was residing with the deceased, allegedly concealed himself behind a door and launched a violent attack while she was bathing. He used household items to carry out the assault. Upon interrogation, Gobir Yusuf confessed to the crime, admitting that the act was driven by deep-seated resentment. He further disclosed that he had made previous attempts to poison the deceased, but these efforts had failed, leading him to resort to more direct and lethal means.
Aftermath and Evidence Recovery
After committing the offence, the suspect changed his clothes and left the residence under the pretext of running an errand, attempting to evade detection. He later contacted the deceased's husband, who subsequently discovered her lifeless body, adding to the tragedy of the situation. The police recovered several items from the suspect, including a frying pan, a weighing scale, a kitchen turning stick (spatula), and kitchen knives, which are believed to have been used in the attack.
