Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Alleged Human Parts Trade in Ibadan
The Oyo State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against criminal activities by arresting three suspects involved in the unlawful possession and alleged sale of suspected human parts in Ibadan. This operation underscores the police's ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and curb heinous crimes across the state.
Details of the Arrest
The arrests occurred during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by police operatives in the Adekile area of Agugu, Ibadan. A patrol team intercepted an unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle and discovered a package containing flesh, which is suspected to be human intestines, in the possession of a passenger. The suspect, identified as Oyategbe Joseph, was immediately taken into custody.
During interrogation, Oyategbe Joseph reportedly confessed to obtaining the suspected human parts from an unidentified individual in the Oritaperin area of the city. Further investigations by the police revealed that he allegedly sold these items to two other individuals, leading to their subsequent arrests.
Additional Suspects Apprehended
The two other suspects, Alfa Onaolapo Taiwo, aged 46, and Pastor Ayodele Taiwo, aged 55, were tracked down and arrested based on information gathered from the initial suspect. Both men reportedly admitted to purchasing the suspected human parts, confirming their involvement in the illicit trade.
Police spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that the Commissioner of Police has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough and discreet investigation. He emphasized that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigations, ensuring that justice is served.
