Security Forces Engage Terrorists in Plateau Village, Three Dead and One Injured
In a tragic incident in Plateau State, three individuals have been confirmed dead and one injured after security operatives repelled a terrorist attack in Pwomol Village, located in the Heipang District of Jos, the state capital. The Plateau State Police Command reported the event following a distress call received early on April 6, 2026.
Police Statement Details the Attack and Response
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the attack occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on April 6, 2026. The police received a distress call from the Barkin Ladi Local Council reporting gunshot sounds in the vicinity of Pwomol Village.
Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, mobilized a joint response team. This team included the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Barkin Ladi, military personnel, and other security agencies. They swiftly engaged the attackers in a gun duel.
Due to the superior firepower of the security team, the attackers were forced to flee into the surrounding mountainous forests. Unfortunately, during the confrontation, three people lost their lives, and one other sustained injuries. The injured victim was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention.
Arrest and Security Reinforcement Efforts
In a follow-up clearance operation, security forces arrested a suspect identified as Suleiman (male) around the Redemption Camp. The suspect was apprehended with visible blood stains and is currently in police custody.
Commissioner of Police Bassey Ewah visited the scene of the incident for an on-the-spot assessment. He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured them that a thorough investigation would be conducted to bring the fleeing suspects to justice.
To restore public confidence and prevent further threats, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reinforced security presence in the area. This includes additional deployments, intensified patrols, and enhanced synergy with other security agencies.
Call for Vigilance and Compliance
Commissioner Ewah emphasized the commitment of the Plateau State Police Command to safeguarding lives and property across the state. He urged all residents to remain calm, vigilant, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
Additionally, he reminded residents to respect curfew restrictions to avoid sanctions, underscoring the importance of community cooperation in maintaining security.
