Three herders arrested over Kaduna farmers attack

Troops from Sector 7 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have apprehended three individuals following a violent confrontation between farmers and herders in Jema'a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Attack on Farmers

According to security sources, the troops responded to a distress call at approximately 12:20 a.m. on June 10, 2026, regarding a serious altercation at Atuku Kasa Village. Upon arrival, they discovered two farmers, Nicolas Augustine and Dogara Yakubu, who had sustained machete wounds believed to have been inflicted during the clash.

The injured victims were promptly evacuated to the Anglican Hospital for medical attention and are currently receiving treatment.

Suspects in Custody

During the operation, security personnel arrested three suspects identified as Muhammadu Adamu, Shehu Husaini, and Anas in connection with the incident. The suspects are now in custody as investigations continue.

Security authorities have stated that preliminary inquiries have begun to ascertain both the immediate and underlying causes of the clash, as well as to determine the specific roles played by those arrested.

Restoring Calm

The troops also implemented measures to prevent any further escalation of tensions and to restore peace in the affected community.

Conflicts between farmers and herders have been a recurring security issue in parts of Kaduna State, often stemming from disputes over grazing routes, farmland encroachment, and access to natural resources.

Authorities have assured residents that anyone found culpable will face prosecution according to the law.
