TikToker Peller Arrested Over Reckless Driving in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has taken into custody popular social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a dangerous driving incident that was broadcast live to his followers.

Viral Video Leads to Immediate Arrest

The arrest was confirmed on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi. The trigger for the police action was a video that went viral on Sunday, December 14, showing Peller driving his vehicle in a reckless manner, which ultimately resulted in a crash while he was live-streaming.

In an official statement, the police condemned the act, stating it posed a severe threat to public safety and necessitated urgent intervention. The command detailed that the influencer's actions during the live stream not only endangered his own life but also put other innocent road users at serious risk.

Police Condemn 'Deliberate' Endangerment

The police described the behaviour captured in the video as "extremely dangerous" and with potentially fatal consequences. They went further to assert that "His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangers the lives of other innocent people."

Following his arrest, Peller has been detained for further investigation. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive probe. Authorities have promised that the findings will be made public and that the suspect will be prosecuted in a court of competent jurisdiction.

Commissioner Issues Stern Warning to Influencers

Reacting to the growing trend, the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning. He cautioned social media influencers, content creators, and the general public against using online platforms to promote reckless, dangerous, or criminal behaviour.

CP Jimoh stressed that such lawlessness would not be tolerated and reaffirmed the command's commitment to applying the law fully, without fear or favour. He urged all road users to obey traffic rules strictly, reiterating the police's dedication to ensuring public peace and safety.

This incident has sparked renewed public debate about the lengths some content creators go to for online engagement, with many Nigerians demanding stricter measures to deter such risky stunts. Authorities highlighted that road traffic crashes, often caused by speeding and distracted driving, remain a major concern in Lagos.

The police concluded by affirming that anyone whose actions endanger lives will face prosecution, regardless of their social status or online influence, as part of broader efforts to curb recklessness on the state's roads.
