Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested a 42-year-old man, Nimnan Binfa, on suspicion of vandalism in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. The arrest was made public on Monday by security analyst Zagazola Makama via his official X handle.
Arrest Details
According to security sources cited by Makama, the suspect was apprehended around 11:00 a.m. on May 3 by troops of Sector 3 OPEP while allegedly attempting to steal copper wires within the premises of the College of Accountancy in Kwall. The arrest occurred during a routine security surveillance operation in the area. A chain saw was reportedly recovered from the suspect at the time of his arrest.
Binfa is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation. Authorities emphasize that the operation underscores ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb vandalism and safeguard critical infrastructure across the state.
Separate Incident in Katsina
In a related development, police operatives in Katsina State foiled an attempted bandit attack on Matinji village in Kankia Local Government Area, recovering seven motorcycles used by the assailants.
Police sources disclosed that the incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. on May 2, when heavily armed bandits riding approximately 10 motorcycles stormed the community with the intent to attack residents. Upon receiving distress reports, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Kankia mobilized Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) strike teams to the scene. The operatives engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat into a nearby forest with suspected gunshot wounds.
Security sources added that the fleeing bandits abandoned seven motorcycles, which were subsequently recovered by the police as exhibits. The area has since been secured and cordoned off, with ongoing mop-up operations aimed at tracking down the fleeing suspects. Authorities say further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
