Twin Brothers Remanded for Alleged Rape of 15-Year-Old Girl in Ondo Court
The Akure Chief Magistrate's Court has taken a decisive step by remanding twin brothers, Eyinloju Taiwo and Eyinloju Kehinde, at the Olokuta Correctional Centre. This action follows serious allegations of raping a 15-year-old girl, a case that has drawn significant attention in Ondo State.
Details of the Alleged Offences
The duo was arraigned by the Ondo State Amotekun Corps, facing a four-count charge. According to the prosecuting counsel, O.F. Baba, the alleged offences occurred on March 12, 2026, between 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., at Abisi Street, Ikamu Quarters, Oka Akoko, Ondo State. Baba alleged that the defendants had unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl, identified as Busayo Bakare, without her consent.
In a disturbing twist, the prosecutor further informed the court that the defendants also allegedly abducted one Juliet Oke to aid in the commission of the alleged rape. This additional charge adds a layer of complexity to the case, highlighting the severity of the accusations.
Legal Framework and Court Proceedings
The offences are said to contravene multiple sections of the law. Specifically, they violate Sections 357, 516, and 558 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006. Additionally, the charges fall under Section 2(iii), punishable under Section 3(ii)(b) of the Ondo State Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law, 2010.
To support the case, a remand application backed by an affidavit has been filed, urging the court to remand the defendants in a correctional facility pending further proceedings. This move underscores the gravity of the allegations and the need for thorough investigation.
Defense and Adjournment
Counsel for the defendants, D.S. Omnidougha, responded by praying the court for permission to file a counter-affidavit. This indicates that the defense is preparing to challenge the allegations, setting the stage for a legal battle.
Magistrate Damilola Sekoni has adjourned the case to April 22, 2026, for the hearing of the remand application. This adjournment allows both sides to prepare their arguments, ensuring a fair judicial process.
The case has sparked widespread concern, reflecting broader issues of public safety and justice in the region. As the legal proceedings unfold, many will be watching closely to see how the court handles these serious allegations against the twin brothers.
