Police Inspector Fatally Stabbed During Duty in Akure
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a police inspector in Akure. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when the officer was carrying out his legitimate duties in the state capital.
According to police spokesperson Olusola Ayanlade, the tragedy unfolded when the inspector encountered a group of what he described as "recalcitrant individuals" during his patrol. The confrontation quickly escalated into a physical altercation that turned deadly.
Swift Police Response Leads to Arrests
Following the attack, police operatives were immediately deployed to the scene under the directive of the Commissioner of Police. The quick response resulted in the apprehension of two suspects directly linked to the crime.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shina Jacob, 25 years old, and Felix Olalekan, 32 years old. Both men are now in police custody and facing serious allegations related to the officer's death.
The injured police inspector was rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment. However, despite all medical efforts to save his life, the officer succumbed to his injuries while receiving care.
Police Vow to Protect Officers and Public
In his statement, SP Ayanlade issued a strong warning to those who might contemplate attacking police personnel. He emphasized that the command maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward assaults on officers performing their lawful duties.
"The Command reiterates that it will not tolerate any form of human rights abuse by its officers, just as it will deal decisively with anyone who assaults or attacks police officers in the course of their lawful duties," Ayanlade stated firmly.
The police spokesperson confirmed that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be formally charged in court once the inquiry is completed. The incident has sparked concerns about the safety of security personnel while performing their duties in the state.
