The Niger State Police Command has apprehended two individuals in Minna for possession of suspected counterfeit United States currency totalling $1,000. The suspects, Abba Ibrahim, 25, and Abdulazeez Muhammad, 20, were taken into custody by a surveillance patrol team on June 22, 2026.

Arrest Details and Suspects' Claims

According to a statement from the command's spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspects were intercepted at the David Mark roundabout in Minna around 8 pm. They were riding a Jincheng motorcycle when stopped. A search revealed ten pieces of 100-dollar notes, suspected to be counterfeit, amounting to $1,000.

During interrogation, Abdulazeez Muhammad claimed that he found a wallet containing the suspected counterfeit money on the ground in Paiko. He then took the money and arranged to meet his friend, Abba Ibrahim, in Minna to dispose of the counterfeit currency.

The two suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation. SP Abiodun confirmed that the case is being thoroughly investigated to determine the origin of the counterfeit notes and any potential links to broader counterfeiting networks.
