Two Lives Lost in Violent Cult Confrontation
The peaceful atmosphere of Agbarho community in Delta State was shattered this week when two men lost their lives during a suspected confrontation between rival cult groups. The victims have been identified simply as Jonathan and Konto, both stabbed to death in separate incidents connected to the ongoing violence.
Police Confirm Fatal Incidents
According to a police source who spoke anonymously on Thursday, November 20, the first victim Jonathan was killed on Tuesday. The police representative stated that while the exact cause of the attack remains under investigation, preliminary findings strongly indicate the violence resulted from lingering cult-related tensions between groups in the area.
The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, officially confirmed one death in the incident, though community sources indicate two fatalities occurred.
Festival Celebration Turns Deadly
Anti-cultism advocacy organization Naija Confra provided additional context, revealing that the violent clashes actually began on Monday during what should have been a peaceful watch night event for the Agbarho Ibi Festival. The platform detailed how the situation escalated dramatically between the competing groups.
During the initial confrontation, several Maphite cult members sustained serious injuries, including their top leader in the Agbarho area who required hospitalization. Other members from both sides also suffered injuries during the violent exchange.
Tragically, the violence claimed its first victim when Konto, identified as a member of the Eiye confraternity, died on Tuesday morning from injuries sustained during the clashes.
In a retaliatory move, cult members later killed Jonathan, who had recently relocated from Warri to Agbarho, marking the second fatality in this disturbing series of events that has left the community in mourning and heightened security concerns throughout the region.
