Two Pedestrians Die in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash

Two pedestrians tragically lost their lives on June 12, Democracy Day, after being struck by a speeding truck near Car Park C along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor in Ogun State. The incident occurred as the victims attempted to cross the busy expressway.

TRACE Confirms Incident

The spokesperson of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Abeokuta. Akinbiyi stated that the victims were hit by a white Mini Howo truck with registration number AKR 201 XD while crossing the road.

Victims and Response

According to Akinbiyi, one victim, a female, died at the scene, while the second victim died while being evacuated to the hospital. Operatives from TRACE, the Amotekun Corps, Redeemed Police MTD, and OGSEMSAS responded promptly to the rescue operation.

He explained that the crash occurred because the victims were unaware of the speeding truck approaching the corridor as they attempted to cross. The victims were taken to Redeemed Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths. Their remains were later deposited at the hospital morgue.

Investigation and Traffic Impact

The vehicle involved in the crash was recovered and towed by the Redeemed Police MTD for further investigation. Akinbiyi stated that normalcy was restored after the evacuation of the victims and clearing of the scene, noting that the crash temporarily disrupted traffic flow along the corridor.
