Amateur footballer Tyler Fairman has passed away days after being struck by a vehicle while celebrating the end of the season with his team. The 26-year-old player for Woodthorpe Park Rangers FC was involved in the incident that occurred at around 1:12 am on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in the Market Place area of Arnold, Nottinghamshire.
According to police reports, a red Vauxhall Astra mounted the curb and hit a group of five individuals, which included Fairman, his manager, and another teammate. Fairman sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital for intensive medical care. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries on the night of Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
Investigation Upgraded to Murder
Nottinghamshire Police have since upgraded the investigation to a murder inquiry. Duane Anthony, a 40-year-old resident of Bulwell, was arrested shortly after the incident. He has been charged with five counts of attempted murder, aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance. Following Fairman's death, authorities are now working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service to review and potentially amend the charges. Anthony remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on June 8, 2026.
Community in Mourning
The tragedy has deeply affected the local community and the broader football fraternity. Fairman is remembered as a devoted partner to his girlfriend of eight years, Laraya, who works as an NHS healthcare professional. He was also a loving father to a two-year-old son and was eagerly anticipating the birth of a baby girl, who is due very soon. A fundraising campaign has been launched to support his family, raising over £11,000 so far. Friends have described him as having a “heart of gold” and being someone who could “light up any room he walked into.”
Police Appeal for Public Cooperation
Nottinghamshire Police have urged the public to refrain from speculating online or sharing videos of the incident, as active criminal proceedings are ongoing. Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow stated, “We are aware of videos of the incident circulating on social media. We appeal to anyone who has shared or posted any such videos to take them down immediately so that Tyler’s family can grieve in peace.”
