A shocking homicide has occurred within the premises of the Gombe State Government House, leading to the arrest of a 19-year-old casual watchman. The victim, a fellow casual staff member, was found dead under disturbing circumstances on Boxing Day.
Disturbing Discovery at Government House
The tragic incident unfolded on December 26, 2025, at approximately 3:50 p.m. Mallam Umar, popularly known as Baba Usama, was discovered lying motionless. He worked as a borehole operator at the newly renovated Taraba House within the Government House complex.
First responders made a chilling discovery. The victim was found with his trousers tied around his neck and a local intoxicant, commonly referred to as rubber solution, inserted into his mouth. He was rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Gombe, where a medical doctor confirmed he was dead.
Police Investigation and Swift Arrest
The Gombe State Police Command, through its spokesperson DSP Buhari Abdullahi, swiftly launched an investigation. The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, visited the crime scene and ordered a thorough probe.
Reviewing CCTV footage from the Government House premises proved crucial. The footage revealed that the victim was assaulted before his death by a fellow casual worker. The identified suspect was Shuaibu Adamu, a 19-year-old casual watchman also known as "Yaya Mama" from Mallam Kuri Quarters. Adamu was attached to a construction company handling projects within the Government House.
After fleeing the scene, a coordinated police operation tracked him down. He was arrested at his hideout in Bagadaza Quarters, Gombe, at about 11:00 p.m. on the same day. During preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime.
Ongoing Probe and Call for Calm
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue. The police aim to determine the full circumstances surrounding the homicide and ensure diligent prosecution. The victim's body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
In its statement, the Gombe State Police Command reassured the public of its commitment to justice and the safety of all persons within and around government facilities. They promised to communicate further developments as the investigation progresses.
