Anxiety gripped the Gombe State Government House following the gruesome killing of a casual staff member, with police swiftly arresting a 19-year-old watchman as the prime suspect.
Details of the Grisly Incident
The victim, Baba Usama, a borehole operator at the seat of power, was found lifeless on the afternoon of Friday, December 26, 2025. The incident, which occurred around 3:50 pm, sent shockwaves through the government facility.
According to the Gombe State Police Command spokesman, Buhari Abdullahi, a distress call led officials to discover Usama's body. He was found motionless with his trousers tied around his neck. Investigators also discovered a local intoxicant, commonly referred to as rubber solution, inserted in his mouth.
The victim was rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Gombe, where a medical doctor confirmed his death. His remains were deposited at the hospital's mortuary for an autopsy to ascertain the full cause of death.
Police Investigation and Arrest
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, immediately visited the crime scene and ordered a comprehensive investigation. The probe utilized CCTV footage from within the Government House premises.
The footage revealed a shocking sequence of events. It showed Shuaibu Adamu, a 19-year-old casual watchman also known as "Yaya Mama" from Mallam Kuri Quarters, assaulting the deceased before his death. Adamu, attached to a construction company working within the Government House, allegedly fled the scene after the act.
In a coordinated operation, police detectives tracked the suspect to his hideout in Bagadaza Quarters, Gombe. He was arrested at about 11 pm on the same day the crime was reported.
Confession and Ongoing Proceedings
During preliminary interrogation, Shuaibu Adamu confessed to the crime. He remains in police custody as investigations continue to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the homicide.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to ensuring diligent prosecution in accordance with the law. The Gombe State Police Command, through its spokesman, reiterated its dedication to justice and the safety of all persons within and around government facilities.
