A 32-year-old widow has been brought before a magistrate for the alleged murder of her husband, a serving police officer in South Africa.
Court Appearance and Charges
Mokheseng Nqxulelo made a brief appearance at the Aliwal North Magistrate Court on December 23, 2025. The court remanded her in transit to the Khayelitsha Court. She is scheduled to appear again on December 29, 2025, to face a formal charge of murder.
Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani confirmed the details, stating that the accused was re-arrested in Jamestown in the Eastern Cape by the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The case stems from a tragic incident in February 2023. According to information provided by the Hawks, the couple, who lived in Harare, had an ongoing altercation. Family members who were present eventually left due to the continuous arguing.
Hani relayed the wife's account: "The wife reports that the deceased fetched his official firearm. She relays that she thought he wanted to shoot her, but he handed her the firearm and said she must fire a few rounds to release her anger."
The woman allegedly fired several rounds into the wall of their lounge. It was during this process that she realised her husband was lying on the floor. She then ran to a neighbour to seek help.
The injured sergeant was rushed to a hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Case History and Re-arrest
The case was initially set to go to trial in June 2025, but the matter was withdrawn due to a key witness who could not be traced. Following further consultations with the Director of Public Prosecutions, a decision was made to proceed with the prosecution.
A warrant for her arrest was issued, leading to her recent re-arrest by the Hawks. The case will now proceed anew as the state seeks justice for the slain officer from the Protection and Security Services (PSS).
