DCI Arrests Woman in Nairobi Drug and Robbery Syndicate Targeting Men

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have made a significant arrest in connection with a sophisticated stupefying and theft syndicate operating in Nairobi and its surrounding areas. The arrest of a female suspect marks a crucial breakthrough in combating this emerging criminal trend that preys on unsuspecting revellers.

Intelligence-Led Operation Uncovers Criminal Network

The operation was initiated following a detailed report filed at Embakasi Police Station, which triggered an intelligence-led investigation. According to the DCI statement released on Sunday, March 29, 2026, the complainant reported being targeted while socializing at a venue in the capital city.

The victim recounted being approached and hugged by an unidentified woman shortly after participating in a pool game. Moments later, he began experiencing severe dizziness and decided to leave for home in her company, only to lose consciousness completely.

Upon regaining awareness, the victim discovered that numerous valuables had been stolen from his residence. The stolen items included two laptops—one HP and one Lenovo—a Samsung S22 mobile phone, cash amounting to Ksh 168,000, and jewellery valued at Ksh 50,000.

Forensic Investigation Leads to Arrest

Acting on forensic evidence and investigative leads, detectives traced the suspect to the Kihunguro area in Ruiru. Jane Wangare Ndungu was apprehended at Havilla Apartments, where a comprehensive search of the premises was conducted.

The search yielded a substantial cache of suspected stolen property, including:

  • 40 assorted mobile phones
  • 14 laptops
  • An iPad with a keyboard

Among these items, several were positively identified as belonging to the original complainant, providing concrete evidence linking the suspect to the crime.

Organized Criminal Network Exposed

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect is part of an organized criminal network that employs a stupefying substance commonly known as “mchele.” This substance renders victims incapacitated, allowing the syndicate to operate with impunity.

The criminal group exploits this incapacitated state to steal valuables and extract sensitive financial information from their targets. This modus operandi not only results in immediate financial loss for victims but also fuels the circulation of stolen electronics in the black market, creating a cycle of criminal activity.

Ongoing Investigations and Public Warning

The suspect has been formally booked at Embakasi Police Station as investigations intensify to dismantle the wider criminal network. The DCI has emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the public from such emerging criminal trends and is pursuing all leads to identify additional perpetrators.

In light of this incident, the DCI has issued a public advisory urging citizens to remain vigilant in social establishments. Members of the public are encouraged to promptly report any suspicious incidents to the nearest police station or through established reporting channels. This collaborative approach between law enforcement and the community is essential for preventing similar crimes and ensuring public safety.

The arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by Kenyan authorities to address organized crime and protect citizens from sophisticated criminal schemes that exploit social settings for illicit gain.
