Woman Stabs Husband to Death in Harare Over Christmas Meal Dispute
Woman kills husband in Harare after argument over food

A festive family celebration in Harare turned into a nightmare on Christmas Day after a domestic argument over a late meal ended in a fatal stabbing. Police in Zimbabwe's capital are now searching for a woman who allegedly killed her husband in their Glen Norah suburb home.

What Triggered the Christmas Eve Argument?

The tragic sequence of events began on the evening of December 24th. According to the police report, the deceased, identified as Levy Mautsa, confronted his wife because his supper was not prepared on time. This confrontation sparked a heated disagreement that escalated throughout the night.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed that the argument turned physical. Mautsa allegedly assaulted his wife with open hands and also damaged her mobile phone during the altercation.

Neighbour's Intervention and the Final Attack

The disturbance became so loud that it attracted the attention of a neighbour, Blessing Chengeti. Chengeti intervened around midnight, managing to calm the situation temporarily. Both Mautsa and his wife then went back inside their home.

However, the peace was shattered several hours later, in the early hours of Christmas Day. The wife reportedly made a chilling phone call to a workmate. During that call, she allegedly confessed to stabbing her husband three times with a kitchen knife. She urged the workmate to check on Mautsa before she fled the scene.

Police Discover Grisly Scene and Launch Manhunt

When police officers arrived at the residence, they found a grim scene. Levy Mautsa was dead, having sustained severe stab wounds to his neck, left shoulder, and back. Investigators recovered a kitchen knife, believed to be the murder weapon, from the garden outside the house.

Mautsa's body has been taken to the Sally Mugabe Central Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The Zimbabwe Republic Police have launched a full-scale manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large. Authorities have appealed to the public to provide any information that could lead to her arrest.

This incident has cast a dark shadow over the Glen Norah community, highlighting the devastating potential of domestic disputes. It serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for conflict resolution and support systems to prevent such tragedies.
