Woman's Decomposed Body Found in Abuja Residence

A shocking discovery was made in the Federal Capital Territory as the remains of a woman were found inside her residence in a highbrow area of Abuja.

Discovery of the Deceased

Hajiya Fanna Mohd Abare was found deceased in her home located within the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) estate in Maitama. The grim find was made by her sister, Hajiya Aisha Mongo, on the afternoon of December 17, 2025.

According to reports from security analyst Zagazola Makama, the deceased had been unresponsive for approximately two days prior to the discovery. Her sister grew concerned after being unable to reach her and visited the property around 1700 hours.

Scene of the Incident

Upon arrival, Hajiya Aisha Mongo found the door to her sister's room locked from the inside. With no response from within, the door was forced open, revealing the tragic scene. The body was already in a state of advanced decomposition.

Authorities were immediately alerted. Police detectives from the relevant division were dispatched to the scene to commence preliminary investigations and secure the area.

Response and Evacuation

Given the condition of the body and the potential risk to public health, the Abuja Environmental Health Department was contacted for professional handling. Their personnel took charge of the evacuation process.

The remains were subsequently transported to the Gudu Cemetery for burial, a decision made to mitigate any health hazards associated with the decomposition.

Ongoing Police Investigation

In an initial statement, the police indicated that no foul play is currently suspected in the incident. However, they have emphasized that the case remains open.

Sources close to the investigation have confirmed that inquiries are ongoing to officially determine the precise cause of Hajiya Fanna Mohd Abare's death. Investigators are likely reviewing all available evidence and speaking to potential witnesses.

The community in FHA Maitama has been left unsettled by the event, which highlights concerns about welfare checks for individuals living alone.
