World Igbo Congress Plans Washington Rally Over Insecurity

The World Igbo Congress (WIC), in collaboration with the Save Nigeria Advocacy Group, is organizing a rally in Washington D.C. to draw global attention to the escalating insecurity, kidnappings, and killings in Nigeria. The event is scheduled to take place from June 20 to June 23, 2026, starting at 10:00 a.m. daily.

Leadership and Objectives

Dr. Festus Okere, Chairman of WIC, has mandated Vice Chairman Mazi Basil Onwukwe to lead the delegation. The rally aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by Christian communities and other citizens due to violent Islamic jihadist insurgency. The group demands decisive action from President Bola Tinubu's administration to urgently end the crisis.

Awards Ceremony

The event will conclude with an awards ceremony honoring U.S. Congress members who have significantly contributed to raising public awareness about Nigeria's insecurity challenges.

Commitment to Justice

Onwukwe reiterated WIC's unwavering commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of atrocities in Igbo land face justice, including exposing the financiers behind these crimes. He also criticized the government's strategy of integrating repentant Boko Haram terrorists into security forces while harassing youths advocating for good governance.

Call for Investigation

WIC stated: “The persistent threat of mass killings and kidnappings calls for proper investigation of the Nigerian government and its security apparatus. It is imperative that we stand together with the government of the United States in support of this cause and continue to work tirelessly to protect the lives and properties of our good people.”
