Yobe Police Arrest 23 in Drug Raids, Recover Illicit Substances

The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended 23 suspects in connection with drug-related offences and recovered various illicit substances during operations in Tashan Fulani village, Tarmuwa Local Council Area, and Damaturu township.

Coordinated Raids Lead to Arrests

The arrests were made following coordinated raids and intelligence-driven operations. The command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, stated in Damaturu: “The police command, in line with its renewed strategies aimed at combating criminal activities and drug-related offenses across the state, has recorded significant successes, following coordinated raids and intelligence-driven operations that led to the arrest of 23 suspects.” He added that various illicit substances were also recovered from the suspects.

Operation in Tarmuwa

On 14th May 2026, at about 1200 hours, police operatives attached to the Tarmuwa Division, in collaboration with local vigilantes, conducted a massive raid at Tashan Fulani village. During the operation, four suspects were arrested while in possession of two and a half bundles of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, five packets of solution substances each containing 15 pieces of Indian hemp, ten litres of a substance known as “Suck and Die,” as well as tramadol and Enzol tablets. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion.

Operation in Damaturu

In a similar development on 13th May 2026, at about 2130 hours, operatives of A Division Damaturu conducted a joint night patrol and raid operations within Damaturu township, targeting identified black spots including Zango CMC, Mass Transit Park Area, and the Jerusalem Ajayi community. This operation led to the arrest of 19 suspects, comprising 14 males and five females. Recovered exhibits included Tramadol capsules, Exol and Diazepam tablets, and large quantities of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Police Commitment to Fighting Crime

The 23 suspects are currently undergoing screening, and those found culpable will be charged to court accordingly. The Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to sustaining the fight against criminal syndicates, drug abuse, and other related crimes across the state. He directed officers and tactical teams to sustain the operational tempo and intensify efforts in flushing out criminal elements from their hideouts. Jibrin urged the public to continue supporting the police and other security agencies by providing timely and credible information, while remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious persons, movements, or objects within their communities.
