The Yobe State Police Command has made significant arrests in Damaturu, the state capital, detaining two individuals for alleged involvement in murder and drug abuse-related offences. The suspects, identified as Musa Mohammed, 24, and Ibrahim Abdullahi, 32, are accused of using dangerous weapons, including an axe, in violent attacks that led to fatalities.

Details of the First Incident

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Dungus Abdulkarim, the command's spokesperson, the first incident occurred on April 7, 2026. The dispute reportedly began over a borrowed T-shirt and escalated into a physical confrontation. During the altercation, punches were exchanged, causing one of the parties to fall unconscious. Police operatives immediately rushed the victim to the Specialist Hospital Damaturu, where medical personnel confirmed his death.

This led to the arrest of Abdullahi Musa, with ongoing investigations being handled by the State's Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

Police Appeal and Commitment

The Yobe State Police Command has issued a strong appeal to parents, community leaders, and civil society organizations to support security agencies in addressing the menace of drug and substance abuse among youths. The command lamented that such abuse has contributed to violent crimes and preventable loss of lives.

Police Commissioner Emmanuel Ado urged the public to remain law-abiding, resolve disputes peacefully, and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
