Zimbabwe Businessman Stabbed by Fourth Wife Over Alleged Affairs with Cousin and Friend
A domestic dispute in Domboshava, Zimbabwe, has escalated into a significant legal confrontation after a businessman's fourth wife allegedly stabbed him during a heated argument about his purported infidelity. The incident, which involved extramarital relationships with the wife's cousin and a married friend, has now resulted in a complex court case focusing on compensation and child maintenance.
Violent Confrontation Over Alleged Infidelity
Judith Maruta, 33, was detained for two weeks following the altercation with her husband, Kefas Mushore, 50. According to Maruta, the confrontation erupted after she discovered Mushore's alleged relationships with her cousin, Tabeth Banda, and a married friend. "I failed to stomach a situation where my husband was bedding my married friend and sister," Maruta stated, referencing the cultural norm in Zimbabwe where cousins are often regarded as siblings.
During the argument, the situation turned physical, leading Maruta to stab Mushore in the leg. She was subsequently fined and ordered to pay restitution for damages. However, Mushore later obtained a protection order and is now seeking substantial compensation, reportedly amounting to $50,000, claiming the injury has impaired his mobility.
Cousin Confirms Relationship and Financial Influence
Tabeth Banda confirmed the relationship with Mushore, explaining that financial support from him influenced her actions. "Mushore had been assisting me with money behind my sister's back and I could not reject everything he was assisting me with," Banda said. She added that she did not disclose Mushore's romantic intentions to her sister to avoid further conflict. "After she came to know about it, my sister confronted me angrily and I confirmed dating her husband."
Legal Battle Over Maintenance and Compensation
As the case proceeds before a Domboshava magistrate, Maruta is also seeking increased maintenance for their two children. She expressed regret over the polygamous marriage, stating it has left her without some of her properties, including two houses and a car. "I regret the polygamous marriage, it has left me without some of my properties, including two houses and a car," she lamented.
Maruta described her current situation as "miserable," attributing her circumstances to the breakdown of the marriage and its aftermath. The legal proceedings are expected to address both the compensation claim and the maintenance issues, highlighting the broader implications of domestic disputes in polygamous relationships.
