Alaafin congratulates Marwa on NDLEA reappointment

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has extended warm congratulations to Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd.) following his reappointment as Executive Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for a second term.

Royal Endorsement for Anti-Drug Crusader

In an official statement released through his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the respected monarch described Marwa as "a trailblazer" and exemplary public servant who has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities.

The Alaafin specifically praised Marwa's character, noting he is "conscientious, reliable, organised, and highly determined." He elaborated that as the Aare Atunluse of Yorubaland, Marwa demonstrates exceptional organizational skills and deep responsibility in his work.

"The NDLEA Executive Chairman works hard in the face of challenges and remains focused on his goals, persisting even amid setbacks," the traditional ruler stated in his commendation.

Distinguished Public Service Record

Oba Owoade highlighted Marwa's extensive background in public service, recalling his impactful tenures as Military Governor of the former Borno State from 1990 to 1992 and Military Administrator of Lagos State between 1996 and 1999.

During his Lagos State administration, Marwa introduced significant reforms across healthcare, infrastructure, and security sectors. The monarch specifically mentioned "Operation Sweep," a joint police-military initiative that dramatically reduced crime rates in Lagos State.

"His administration also implemented 'Operation 250 Roads,' revamped public health institutions, and expanded infrastructure in underserved communities," the statement detailed, underscoring the breadth of Marwa's developmental impact.

National Recognition and NDLEA Achievements

The Alaafin acknowledged Marwa's numerous national honors, including being named Newswatch magazine's "Nigeria's Man of the Year" in 1997, receiving the national honour of OFR in 2003, and being awarded the Distinguished Service Star by the Nigerian Armed Forces in 1998.

Marwa, who previously chaired the Presidential Advisory Committee on the Elimination of Drug Abuse (PACEDA), was first appointed NDLEA Chairman in January 2021. Under his leadership, the agency achieved remarkable success, intercepting and destroying illicit drugs worth over ₦60 billion within his first six months in office.

The monarch concluded with prayers for long life, good health, and continued success for the NDLEA boss, commending his "charismatic leadership" and unwavering commitment to combating drug abuse across Nigeria.
