In a significant enforcement operation, the Katsina State Hisbah Board has publicly destroyed more than 120 cartons of confiscated alcoholic beverages as part of the state's intensified campaign against activities deemed immoral under Islamic teachings.
Major Destruction Exercise in Funtua
The destruction event took place on Thursday, November 13, 2025 in Funtua, where officials from the religious police force oversaw the elimination of the prohibited substances. The operation was led by Commander D.C. Bashir Lawal Balarabe, the head of the Hisbah Board in Dandume Local Government Area, who was joined by other officials from the Funtua zone.
During the exercise, the team received a visit from the State Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, C.G. Sheikh Malam Aminu Usman (Abu-Ammar), PhD, who traveled to the area to personally monitor the enforcement activity and demonstrate the board's commitment to its moral purification mandate.
Islamic Scholars Reinforce Religious Prohibition
The event featured several Islamic scholars who delivered strong warnings about the dangers of alcohol consumption, emphasizing that intoxicants remain strictly forbidden in Islam and represent a source of societal destruction. Their sermons reinforced the religious justification for the crackdown and educated attendees about the spiritual consequences of engaging with prohibited substances.
According to officials present, the confiscated alcohol had been intercepted during routine operations targeting the consumption, distribution, and trafficking of intoxicants across the region. Authorities maintained that the destruction was necessary to address what they described as rising moral decadence within local communities.
Governor's Commitment to Moral Restoration
Speaking after the destruction exercise, Commander-General Sheikh Abu-Ammar highlighted the board's continued fight against alcohol-related activities since the Hisbah was re-established by Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda. He praised the governor's commitment to strengthening the institution as both commendable and timely, particularly in addressing challenges affecting the moral fabric of communities throughout the state.
The event attracted senior officials of the Hisbah Board from the Funtua zone alongside prominent Islamic scholars from various parts of the region, demonstrating broad support for the ongoing enforcement measures aimed at preserving Islamic values and public morality in Katsina State.
