The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued an urgent public health warning concerning a dangerous alcoholic product found to contain illegal substances and causing severe health risks.
Deadly Laboratory Findings
NAFDAC launched an investigation into Japata Alcoholic Bitters 100ml following numerous consumer complaints about the product. Officials conducted surprise visits to the production facility operated by Chigodson International Company Limited located at No. 30 Edegbami Offor Street, off Destiny Bus Stop, Isheri-Oshun Street in Alimosho LGA, Lagos State.
Samples collected from both the factory and various market outlets were subjected to rigorous laboratory testing. The results revealed shocking findings that prompted immediate regulatory action.
The laboratory tests confirmed that the product was adulterated with marijuana or cannabis, despite having been previously registered with NAFDAC containing only ethanol. The contaminated version caused altered mental states and psychological issues in test subjects.
Immediate Health Dangers Revealed
In the most alarming discovery, mice used in laboratory experiments died within just five minutes of exposure to the adulterated bitters. This rapid fatality rate demonstrates the extreme toxicity of the contaminated product.
Further analysis revealed that the alcohol content in the tainted version was twice as high as the properly registered sample. The retained samples from the original registration process showed no harmful effects on test animals, confirming that the product had been dangerously modified after approval.
The production facility has been completely shut down by authorities, and the owner of Chigodson International Company Limited is currently evading capture. The case has been escalated to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

Health workers, community leaders, religious organizations, and media outlets have been called upon to help educate the public about the dangers of purchasing alcoholic products from unlicensed vendors and street hawkers.
Consumers are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products or activities to the nearest NAFDAC office immediately. The agency continues to monitor the market for other potentially dangerous products that may threaten public health and safety.
