In a significant crackdown on illicit drug activities, the Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a major arrest and seizure. The operation led to the capture of a suspected drug trafficker and the recovery of a large consignment of cannabis.
Major Drug Bust in Uroe Community
On December 9, 2025, NDLEA operatives conducted a successful raid in the Uroe community, located within the Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State. The target was a hideout used by a suspected drug kingpin.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 44-year-old Ohiomah Igbafe. During the raid, agents discovered and confiscated a massive haul of illicit substances concealed at his hideout.
Details of the Seized Contraband
The seizure was substantial, underscoring the scale of the illegal operation. Agents recovered 15 large bags filled with cannabis sativa, commonly known as skunk.
The total weight of the cannabis found in these bags was a staggering 457 kilograms. In a separate discovery, a sack containing an additional four kilograms of cannabis seeds was also seized, indicating potential cultivation activities.
Agency's Stern Warning to Traffickers
The State Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, confirmed the details in an official press statement. He described the arrest as a critical achievement in the agency's relentless campaign to rid Edo State of drug trafficking networks.
"The operation reflects our undying commitment to the eradication of drug trafficking within Edo State," Commander Ofoyeju stated. "The quantity of illegal drugs seized in this raid represents a serious threat to public health and safety. This level of success encourages us to continue to confront drug cartels relentlessly."
He issued a stern warning, emphasizing that the NDLEA will not relent in its efforts to dismantle criminal drug networks. "We want to send a clear message that drug traffickers and their collaborators have no safe harbour in Edo State," he declared, vowing that offenders would be pursued without mercy.
This operation marks a significant blow to drug distribution channels in the region and highlights the ongoing vigilance of Nigeria's anti-narcotic agency.
