NDLEA Uncovers Major Illicit Drug Warehouse, Arrests Suspect in Edo State

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Edo State Command, has successfully uncovered and dismantled a significant illicit drug warehouse located in the Igbanke community within Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state. This operation marks a critical development in the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse in the region.

Operation Details and Seizure

Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, the State Commander of Narcotics, confirmed the details in a statement released to journalists on Monday. The operation resulted in the arrest of a 37-year-old suspect identified as Roland Owie. Additionally, authorities seized a massive consignment of cannabis sativa, which included 125 bags of dried weeds suspected to be skunk cannabis. The total weight of the confiscated drugs amounted to an impressive 1,378 kilograms.

According to Ofoyeju, this operation was executed based on credible intelligence, highlighting the agency's unwavering commitment to suppressing the supply of illicit drugs. He described the bust as a significant victory in the relentless fight against substance abuse and illegal drug trafficking networks.

Strategic Focus and Impact

"This successful operation is a testament to our relentless pursuit of drug cartels and our strategic focus on supply suppression," Ofoyeju stated. "The seizure of 1,378 kilograms of cannabis in a single operation represents a major blow to the distribution network of these harmful substances."

He emphasized the importance of intercepting such a large quantity, noting that it prevents the drugs from reaching streets, schools, and communities. This proactive measure is crucial in saving countless young people from the devastating effects of drug abuse, thereby protecting public health and safety.

Commitment to Drug Supply Suppression

Ofoyeju reiterated that drug supply suppression remains a cornerstone of the NDLEA's overall strategy. "While we continue our demand reduction efforts through advocacy and rehabilitation, cutting off the source remains paramount," he explained. "Every kilogram seized disrupts the criminal economy, weakens trafficking syndicates, and makes our society safer."

He further added that this arrest and seizure send a clear message to drug barons, asserting that Edo State is not a haven for illicit activities. "We have zero tolerance, and our intelligence and operational capabilities remain strong," Ofoyeju declared, underscoring the agency's resolve to maintain a robust stance against drug-related crimes.

This operation underscores the NDLEA's dedication to eradicating drug trafficking and safeguarding communities from the harmful impacts of illicit substances. The successful dismantling of the warehouse and the significant seizure demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations in the fight against drug abuse.
